Making Copper Butterflies

Butterflies, a stable bread and butter items for over 25 years. Simple designs that can easily be turned into a variety of affordable sculptures. The abundance of overhead close-up shots is your box seat to seeing the progression from raw materials to the finished butterflies. Once the initial butterflies are assembled they can be used in a wide array of sculptures, from plant butterflies, to small wall hangings and also inclusion into larger sculptures. Easy to find materials, basic tools and elemental skill level make this a great entry level video. Bonus: a short section on the making of copper dragonflies. Running Time: 60 minutes

Copper & Brass Maple Leaf Sculptures

Making Copper & Brass Maple Leaf Sculptures is another in the series of designs that are versatile in terms of size and complexity. You can do single leaves, small sprays or large sprays. Material and tools are rather basic. Once you have the fundamentals down, you can transfer these techniques to any of the other broad leaves, such as sassafras, oak etc. By mixing copper and brass you have the properties of fall colors. Bringing out the colors inherent in copper (reds, greens and blues) is accomplished by flame coloring. Running Time 60 minutes

Trees, Trees, Trees

Trees have figured in much of the sculpture that I have produced through the years. Incorporating trees in more rustic scenes or stand alone trees for more formal settings.
This video shows you how to take a very simple concept and turn it into a variety of tree designs. Small trees to large trees. Trees for causal settings, for formal settings or the office and conference room.
Tools and material are minimal; an oxygen acetylene torch and some rod. The skills are basic brazing.
As in all the videos, the step by step approach will guide you from the first step right on up to the finished tree or trees. Running Time 75 minutes

Bicycle Metal Sculpture

Small Table Top Bicycles

The Small Table Top Bikes are used as stand alone pieces or incorporated into wall scenes such as the “Sit & Sip”, “Ride in the Park” and the “Day in the Country”.
The first bikes were used to go on the “Day in the Country”, and then someone asked if they could just buy the bike. So I started making single bikes with kick stands. Later a customer wanted a rack to go with the bike, so I started making bike racks. Which next led to a request for a tandem.
Then a young lady wanted a girls bike and a boys bike in a bike rack for their wedding cake. This eventually led to the “Love Bikes”.
And that’s how it goes. One idea building upon another.
Running time 67 minute

Mid Sized Bicycles

The American Racer and the Mid Sized Tandem have been an important part of my Bicycle Metal Sculpture product line since the late 70’s.
These two bikes are quite easy to build, although there are a couple of challenging steps.
Emphasis is given to building the bikes as table top bicycles, although there is a short section which shows how to turn them into wall sculptures.
Very popular as gifts and awards through bicycling organizations.
Running time: 74 minutes

Ride in the Park and Sip & Sip

Reference
The Ride in the Park and the Sit and Sip have been favorites. For these you will need the Small Bikes video and the Trees,Trees, Trees video. This year (2020) I made 10 Sit and Sips and 5 Ride in the Parks in January. By July these had sold out and I made another 10 and 5. I’m writing this in December and those have all sold. If you are adding to your income, don’t miss these.

Cut Nail 101

Cut Nails 101
Well, what can I say? “Working with cut nails is just plain fun”. The sculptures are easy to do and open up unlimited opportunities for creativity.
For those that don’t feel they are particularly creative: Start laying the cut nails out on your work table and see what you come up with. I can assure you that you be amazed at what you’ve created.
From doing simple layouts to brazing the designs together is quick and easy.
Once we leave these simple designs we’ll move on to more ways to use cut nails.
Running time 60 minutes

RG 45 101

RG 45 is a mild steel gas welding.
The benefit for us is that RG 45 has a thin copper sheath.
We get the look of copper and the strength of steel.
Another advantage is that it is easy to obtain at our local welding supply. It can be purchased by the pound or in fifty pound boxes at a quite reasonable cost..
Through the years I have used literally tons of this material.
You will see me using it in bicycle sculptures, as structural components for barns and covered bridges, in the frames for leaf sprays and in many types of tree sculptures.
It truly is an all around material for the type of sculptures that I do.
I’m confidant that you will find it a useful material in your own metal sculptures.
Running time 66 minutes

Steel Sculpture #1

Steel Sculpture #1 opens up a whole world of possibilities. Using the oxygen acetylene torch, welding steel to steel. Gas welding combined with a 4 inch grinder and sander are the primary tools.
I prefer to work with geometric shapes, although this can be expanded to work with any shapes that you prefer. Running Time 75 Minutes

Steel Sculpture #2

Steel Sculpture #2 is a continuation of working with mild steel. Two designs are featured. But, more important than the designs are the techniques demonstrated. With these techniques the viewer can construct any number of sculptures.
We’ll be looking at other ways to join metals together. Also some designs that use up the leftover scrap metal.

Brazing for Accent

Steel Discs

Steel Disc Metal Sculpture
Using some of the techniques I’ve developed over the years you can be creating one of kind pieces.
This video is especially for those wanting to enter fine art shows, displaying at galleries or doing high end arts and crafts festivals.
Your brazing, gas welding and metal working skills will be brought into play in building these sculptures.
As mentioned elsewhere, these pieces are a lot of work but the results are worth all the effort.
This is a great opportunity to showcase your creativity.

The Bank Barn

The Bank Barn is a continuation of the Americana Series.
A classic barn type that emphasizes dimension with an over hang on the right and left and an over hang in the front.

Set in a winter scene with brazed gold trees and a sleigh.
Running time: 68 minutes

All Aboard

“All Aboard” is part of the Americana Series. This video increases the skill set: building on the previous skills offered in this series.
There is more emphasis on basic sheet metal work.
Brazing and Mig welding are key to building the Train Station.
This video includes a unique way to use inter-changing backgrounds.
The Train station is a basic structure that can be used for a variety of other Americana buildings.
The small parts include benches, luggage, baggage carts and other fixtures that one would find on a vintage railroad station platform.
Suggested for the advanced user. Running Time: 76 minutes

Oxygen Acetylene Brazing

The video “Oxygen Acetylene Brazing” is for the beginner or someone who hasn’t brazed in awhile and wants a refresher.
Covering the basics: Many people find lighting the torch intimidating. Detailed step by step demonstrations for lighting of the torch. Covers the brazing rod and flux. Onto basic brazing, then moving onto brazing heavy walled pipe, thin wall tubing, heavy steel plate, copper, stainless steel and very thin wire. Preparing hot rolled steel for brazing. Setting your Oxygen Acetylene Regulators. Choosing the torch that is right for the work that you plan to do, plus brazing tips and accessories that you may want to add later.
The objective of this video is to get you up to speed quickly so that you can begin building, repairing and producing work with the Oxygen Acetylene Torch.
